The DavenPort

Pure Engineering Group carried out kitchen mechanical and refrigeration works at The Davenport Hotel in Dublin. Our involvement covered the basement kitchen and main upstairs kitchen, with works relating to chilled and frozen storage, associated drainage and kitchen canopy finishing. These services support the working areas behind the hotel’s food and beverage operation, where dependable equipment and practical maintenance access are essential.

The scope of works included:

  • Kitchen installation works across the basement and main kitchen areas.
  • Chiller and freezer refrigeration preparation, including pressure testing, evacuation and refrigerant charging.
  • Cold-room drainage connections.
  • Freezer drain heat tracing and insulation.
  • Kitchen canopy finishing works and provision for canopy lighting.

Kitchen Installation Works

The project records identify equipment delivery for the basement kitchen alongside works to the main kitchen upstairs. Working across separate kitchen areas requires coordination of equipment access, installation tasks and the surrounding building works.

For hotel operators and fit-out contractors, this coordination helps bring the catering equipment and supporting services together around the requirements of each working area.

Chiller and Freezer Refrigeration

The refrigeration scope included pressure testing, evacuation and refrigerant charging for the chiller and freezer systems. These stages prepare the refrigeration circuits for operation: pressure testing checks for leaks, evacuation removes air and moisture, and charging introduces the specified refrigerant.

Reliable chilled and frozen storage supports the hotel’s food storage procedures and catering operation. Correct preparation of the refrigeration system is an important part of achieving its intended performance.

Cold-Room Drainage

The recorded works included connecting the cold-room drain into the building’s drainage arrangement, with reducers to accommodate the required pipe sizes.

Effective drainage carries condensate and defrost water away from refrigeration equipment. For the operator, keeping this water moving through the intended route helps avoid pooling and associated disruption around the storage areas.

Freezer Drain Heat Tracing and Insulation

Heat tracing and insulation were specified for the freezer drain. Heat tracing helps prevent water from freezing within the pipe, while insulation supports temperature management around the drain.

This detail is particularly important in low-temperature installations, where a frozen drain can obstruct the removal of defrost water. Considering drainage alongside the refrigeration equipment helps support continued operation and easier maintenance.

Kitchen Canopy Finishing

The notes also identify finishing works to the kitchen canopy, including provision for a light opening. The photographed installation shows a stainless steel canopy positioned above the central cooking line.

A kitchen canopy forms the collection point for cooking fumes and heat, working with the connected extraction system. Coordinating its finishing details with the equipment beneath it supports access, cleaning and visibility within the cooking area.
