Panama Café

Pure Engineering Group’s project at Panama Café in Belfast showcases ventilation as part of the finished interior. Exposed spiral ductwork runs beneath the concrete ceiling, with circular diffusers positioned throughout the seating and counter areas.

The installation complements the café’s industrial aesthetic, sitting alongside suspended lighting, exposed services and hanging greenery. Its visible metal finish makes the ventilation a prominent architectural feature within the open-plan space.

The scope of works included:

  • Exposed circular ventilation ductwork throughout the café.
  • Branch connections and circular air distribution diffusers.
  • High-level ductwork arranged around the counter, seating and suspended interior features.

Exposed Spiral Ductwork

Circular metal ductwork extends across the café at high level, following the open ceiling layout. The exposed installation retains the room’s ceiling height and complements the concrete surfaces and visible building services.

With the ductwork on display, its routes, joints and connections contribute directly to the finished appearance. The consistent metal finish gives the ventilation a clear visual relationship with the café’s other industrial details.

Circular Air Distribution Diffusers

Short branches connect the main ductwork to circular multi-cone diffusers at intervals throughout the space. These outlets provide air distribution points across the café, including areas around the seating and service counter.

The matching metal finish creates continuity between the main ducts, branch connections and diffusers. Their compact arrangement accommodates air distribution within the exposed ceiling design.

Ventilation Integrated with the Café Interior

The ductwork shares the overhead space with pendant lights, lighting tracks, cable containment and suspended shelving. Its arrangement follows the café’s layout while accommodating these surrounding features.

This project illustrates how visible ventilation can work within a hospitality interior. The ductwork remains part of the room’s character, alongside the decorative lighting and planting, while serving the practical air distribution requirements of the space.
