Pure Engineering Group supported kitchen installation and ventilation works at the Europa Hotel in Belfast, including its new lobby kitchen. The ventilation package brought together a stainless steel extraction canopy, supply and extract fans, and dedicated fan controls to support the demands of a commercial hotel kitchen. Positioned behind an open serving counter, the installation demonstrates how practical kitchen services can sit comfortably alongside a finished hospitality interior.
The scope of works included:
Commercial Kitchen Installation
Our involvement included kitchen equipment installation works, with later project records identifying further works within the new lobby kitchen. Coordinating catering equipment with its supporting ventilation services helps create a practical workspace around the needs of the kitchen team.
For hotel operators and fit-out contractors, considering equipment positions, service connections and maintenance access together helps avoid clashes during installation and future servicing.
Kitchen Extraction Canopy
The stainless steel canopy sits above the cooking line, providing a collection point for cooking fumes, heat and grease-laden air. Removable baffle filters separate grease from the extracted airflow and allow access for routine cleaning.
In a kitchen visible from a serving area, canopy positioning and finishing also contribute to the overall presentation. The photographed installation brings these functional requirements into a compact kitchen behind the hotel’s public-facing interior.
Supply and Extract Ventilation Controls
The ventilation package included supply and extract fans with dedicated controllers. These systems work together to remove cooking emissions and introduce replacement air into the kitchen.
Accessible controls allow staff to operate the ventilation around kitchen activity. Coordinating supply and extraction is an important consideration for managing airflow and supporting comfortable working conditions during food preparation and service.
Fan Wiring and Commissioning
The lobby kitchen works included arrangements for wiring and commissioning the ventilation fans and controllers, coordinated with the site electrician’s power supply works.
Commissioning checks how the fans and controls operate together before handover. This helps identify operating issues while the installation team is still involved and supports a more straightforward transition into daily use.
Canopy Finishing and Maintenance Access
The recorded finishing works included canopy fixings and provision for an access hatch in the ductwork behind the canopy. These details support both the finished appearance and the ability to reach parts of the ventilation system.
Planning maintenance access during installation makes subsequent inspection, cleaning and servicing more practical—an important consideration in hotel kitchens where access can become restricted once surrounding equipment and finishes are in place.
Ventilation to the Condenser Area
The lobby kitchen records also identified a grille opening to provide airflow to the condensers. Condensers need suitable airflow to release heat from the refrigeration process.
Allowing for this airflow within the surrounding construction helps support refrigeration operation and demonstrates why ventilation requirements should be considered alongside the wider kitchen layout.
