Pure Engineering Group delivered cold-room refrigeration, air conditioning, ventilation and kitchen extraction works at Brunel’s restaurant in Newcastle. The project brought together the services needed to support food storage, a busy commercial kitchen and a comfortable dining environment.
Exposed circular ductwork complements the restaurant’s distinctive interior, sitting alongside dark ceilings, stone walls and contemporary finishes. The installation demonstrates how mechanical services can work with the character of a space while supporting the practical needs of restaurant staff and customers.
The scope of works included:
Cold-Room Refrigeration
Cold-room storage provides dedicated space for keeping ingredients at controlled temperatures, supporting the kitchen’s food storage procedures and daily preparation requirements.
For restaurant operators, dependable refrigeration helps organise stock and maintain continuity during busy services. Planning cold-room access alongside the kitchen layout also supports the movement of ingredients between storage, preparation and cooking areas.
Restaurant Air Conditioning
Air conditioning supports temperature control within the restaurant, helping staff manage indoor conditions as occupancy and outdoor temperatures change.
Customer comfort is an important consideration in hospitality fit-outs. Coordinating air conditioning with the layout and ventilation helps address the needs of the dining space while accommodating the restaurant’s interior design.
Ventilation and Exposed Ductwork
The photographed installation features exposed circular metal ductwork with integrated grilles, forming a visible part of the restaurant’s interior. The duct routes follow the ceiling arrangement above the bar and seating areas.
For contractors, exposed services require careful attention to positioning, alignment and finish. At Brunel’s, the visible ductwork complements the surrounding materials while distributing air through the occupied spaces.
Kitchen Canopy and Extraction
The kitchen works included canopy installation and an extraction system serving the cooking area. The canopy forms the collection point for cooking fumes, grease-laden air and heat, which the connected extraction system carries away.
Effective kitchen extraction helps manage conditions around the cooking line. In a restaurant with a visible kitchen pass, coordinating extraction with the wider ventilation arrangement also helps limit the spread of cooking fumes towards customer areas.
Mechanical Services That Complement the Interior
Brunel’s combines an open kitchen view with a distinctive dining environment. Integrating mechanical services into this setting required consideration of both their working function and their appearance within the space.
For hospitality operators and fit-out contractors, a coordinated mechanical package helps bring refrigeration, temperature control and ventilation together around the restaurant’s layout and operational needs.
